Example

Measure the length of the string up to the first punctuation mark:

char myStr[] = "Learn C++, Java and Python!";
int pos = strcspn(myStr, ",.!?");
printf("%d", pos);

Definition and Usage

The strcspn() function searches for the first occurrence in a string of any of the specified characters and returns the length of the string up to that point. If none of the characters are found then the length of the string is returned.

The strcspn() function is defined in the <string.h> header file.


Syntax

strcspn(void * str, void * search);

Parameter Values

Parameter Description
str Required. The string to search in.
search Required. A string containing a set of characters to search for.

Technical Details

Returns: An integer indicating the position of the first occurrence of any of the search characters or the length of the string if none of the characters were found.
