The internet is a network in which a lot of computers are interconnected to each other. People can communicate with each other and can also share files and screens. Different types of internet-based applications are available which include email service, social media, data transfer, etc.

Optical fibers or copper wires are used to set up the internet. Networking can also be established through

  • LAN
  • MAN
  • WAN
  • 2G
  • 3G

Besides this, wireless services are also available to connect to the internet. An organization called ICANN manages IP addresses and protocols along with other technologies for internet connection. The full form of ICANN is Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and it is located in the United States.

What is the World Wide Web?

The common term that is used for the World Wide Web is Web. WWW is a collection of websites, web pages, and content of the websites that are stored on different web servers. The content stored on the WWW includes text, images, audio, videos, and many more. The content is available for the users and they can access it from any device if it is connected to the internet.

The WWW consists of a large number of links and we can click the one which is useful for us. For example, if we are searching for a movie, we will click those links in which the movie is available and we will choose the one whose print is the best. We can use different web browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc. to access the internet.

The internet follows decentralized architecture and is termed as a network of networks. The architecture on which the World Wide Web depends is the client-server. The clients are known as web browsers that send requests to the web servers to provide the desired results.
Different networks of computers are connected to each other through the internet. The Internet is the provider of the World Wide Web service.
Computers can be connected to each other through different means like wired networks. Wi-Fi, satellite links, direct connections, wireless connections, etc. World Wide Web can be accessed through the clients called web browsers. Users can use these browsers to access the content of different websites.
The first version of the internet is ARPANET. The WWW is also known as NSFNET.
The internet depends on hardware. WWW depends on software applications.
The main protocol used by the internet is TCP/IP.  The main protocols used by the WWW are HTTP and HTTPS.

Conclusion

Many people use the internet and the WWW interchangeably but there are a lot of differences between both of them. Internet depends on hardware while WWW depends on software. The internet follows decentralized architecture while WWW is based on client-server architecture. In the internet, connection between computers is done via wireless networks, satellite links, etc. while in the WWW, computers use web browsers to connect to the web servers. There are many more differences so it can be said that the Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same.
